Unique Filer is a specialized system designed to track down
duplicate graphics files. Choose as many folders as you wish,
with or without including their subfolders, and use one of
three methods to detect dupes. You can simply compare filenames,
look for duplicate files based on size, or use Fuzz Compare
-- a unique method that "looks" at each image and can locate
graphics that have been altered by rescaling, color correction,
or even slight modifications. Unique Filer displays its findings
in an expandable tree listing, and can display various
thumbnails or scaled images for you to examine. File
management tools let you delete, move, or copy files. Filters let
you screen file types and set the level of "fuzz." Unique Filer
includes a good help file, and is a very useful tools for graphics
users.

Like roaches, multimedia files on your computer seem to multiply and hide themselves into every corner of your hard drive. You download some pictures from the Web or usenet, grab some MP3's here and there, get some clipart for a Web site and so on. Before you know it that mighty hard drive of yours is begging for relief. There's no easy solution other than getting a larger drive, but you can improve your situation by using Unique Filer. Unique Filer is a duplicate/clone finder that hunts down and eradicates multiple copies of the same multimedia format. It's the Raid Bug spray for dupe files. You select what folder(s) or drive(s) you want scanned and whether you want the subfolder within scanned as well. Unique Filer then uses one of three methods to detect duplicate files. This is done by comparing the filename and size, the filename and content, or by means of a fuzzy compare. The first two methods are fairly standard and work well for clearing out the majority of obvious dupes. Unfortunately what these two methods won't detect are images that are identical but have been slightly modified such as being resized, color corrected, resampled, etc. This is when the fuzzy compare option comes into play. When doing a fuzzy compare, Unique Filer actually looks at the image itself and tries to match the general look and shape of the picture with another image contained in a database of your picture files. It then displays the results in a small thumbnail so you can determine for yourself if they are in fact the same. The fuzzy search isn't perfect (it will nail a number of mistaken matches) but it tends to be right roughly 85-90% of the time. Another useful feature is the "delete" list. What this does is keep a record of all the pics you've trashed. The next time you do a scan looking for dupes, Unique Filer compares the delete list with the new list of files. Any files that match up exactly are immediately nuked, saving both time and space. This is especially useful in situation where you'll run across the same file multiple times, like getting clip art from different sites or downloading pictures from certain usenet newsgroups. Unique Filer is a great utility and easily worth the $15 registration fee. |

It can track down duplicate filenames and true duplicate files, based on file size and content. You can actually "look" at images and find duplicates by appearance, even if the image has been changed.

| Uniquefiler seems to be one of the basic utilities every computer user should have in their computer at least if they do something with any kind of graphic material. Even now it seems to feel like a final release while it still is a beta. |

| Hey, I D/Led this thing and tried it on a directory of 300 photos of the same lady with scans by different people so I knew there were double pix with different filenames and it didn't miss. One file it found was not quite the same but damned close, the subject was in the same position but shifted a bit. It displays the matches side by side so you can see. It's what I've been looking for for a while as I have so much stuff, I'm not even sure what I have! If it behaves like this, it'll be a godsend. Give it a shot! |

| Scanning 4698 pictures, including name/filesize/fuzzy took 14 mins. on an AMD K6 200/48MB RAM/1MB L2 CACHE/6.4 SEAGATE HDD IDE. The result is perfect, I think! While bringing up 43 duplicates in total, the program is smart enough to let me delete any duplicates without having to interrupt the scan process at all... General settings of the software are fair, for my purpose (doing the quick and dirty jobs) it is more than outstanding. Installation is quick and easy and gives you choices too, i.e. where to install et cetera. Global overview: This little piece of software is a very nice utility. If you're dealing with pictures a lot - go for it, $10 registration fee is more than fair! |

| In a word--Wow! I have tried other file duplication programs and yours is the best. Thanks for all the hard work on this program... I am going to add it to my web page. (It will be the ONLY non-freeware, non-nagware program on my page.) |
